CREATION WINES UNVEILS ‘THE POWER OF FLOWERS’ – A GROUNDBREAKING SPRING MENU CELEBRATING THE CAPE FLORAL KINGDOM
Dearest Gentle Reader. This homecoming experience is so quietly exuberant that it is almost indecent! In the way that it would be inconceivable for the queen to be caught ambling through Hyde Park in a bathing suit, drinking the sun and frolicking through flavours, unabashedly celebrating spring and fraternising with the proletariat.
The menu is a, seemingly unassuming, riot of gentle surrender into the splendour of spring. It is geniusly put together and wine-paired for maximum wellness & enjoyment.
In short: “The Power of Flowers” is where gourmet, heritage, wellness, art, and ritual swirl like petals in a spring breeze. It’s elegant, it’s quirky, it’s floral, and wonderfully heartfelt. A little palate-awakening homecoming amid the blooms of our extraordinary Cape Floral Kingdom.
Imagine stepping into an intimate floral reverie, where “It feels like a homecoming”… that’s precisely the sensation as you enter Creation Wines’ latest masterpiece.
“The Power of Flowers” is a spring menu that reads like love letters from the Cape Floral Kingdom itself. This dazzling tasting experience blossoms from now until November, unfolding like petals on the scenic Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, a UNESCO-blessed biosphere of botanical wonders.
Your sojourn begins not with a glass—but with a ritual: a gentle hand-wash ceremony using rose geranium–infused water and Creation’s own olive oil, accompanied by a bespoke Spring Soundscape of bird song and whispering breezes through blooms. Enchanting.
Then, the culinary story unfurls in beautifully titled “chapters”—each paired with evocative wines and dishes that blur the lines between cuisine, wellness, and poetry.
The beautiful, uplifting and whimsical art by Nannette Ranger perfectly sets a mystical, magical tone. The perfect heartwarming welcome to everything light and gentle. It magnanimously sets the mood and tone for this delightful Spring Menu.
Welcome: “Spring Herb Garden”
A consommé of herbs and flowers, floating confetti bush blossoms and chervil dance in a Roussanne-Grenache Blanc-Viognier embrace, fragrant with jasmine tea notes.
Chapter 1: “Ocean’s Gift”
A Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon meets crispy cos-lettuce tacos stuffed with umfino wild greens and nasturtiums, evoking the Atlantic’s salty breath and terroir’s edge.
Chapter 2: “ABC (Absolutely Brilliant Chardonnay)”
Trout (or an artichoke-based plant option), peas, and potato weave around a silky Chardonnay. And yes, there’s a silken scarf ceremony to “feel” the smooth magic of malolactic fermentation, elegance you can literally touch.
Chapter 3: “Red Velvet”
Pinot Noir paired with pelargonium-crusted lamb (or oyster mushroom) drizzled with waterblommetjies and viola petals, where wine and wildflowers intertwine in perfumed harmony
Chapter 4: “Sophisticated Syrah”
A stylish nod to South African braai culture, with rosemary-kissed, peppery Syrah alongside an elevated twist on the classic braaibroodjie.
Chapter 5: “Jasmine Neroli Elixir”
A capstone of malva pudding with honeybush gelato or milk tart and berries, in duet with fortified Viognier awash in jasmine and neroli fragrance.
But the magic doesn’t stop at the plate. Signature sensorial rituals, such as the Silken Scarf Ceremony and a “Nose Accordion Experience” featuring aromatic test tubes, transform tasting into a playful educational experience, where you truly feel and smell the alchemy of winemaking.
Creation and Head Chef Eleanor Coetzee’s tribute to heritage is clever and kind: waterblommetjiebredie transforms into pelargonium-herb-enrobed lamb; umfino is reimagined as delicate tacos; the humbled braaibroodjie finds new grace, all while honouring ancestral flavours and land-rooted stories.
And yes, this feast is fruitful for the community: 80% of the ingredients (and even the crockery!) are locally sourced, sustaining employment for 11 people per guest stop. Additionally, in partnership with the Pebbles Project, it nurtures careers for young locals in the Hemel-en-Aarde region.
But like a rare bloom, this menu is fleeting, offered only in the rhythm of nature, as seasons and blooms permit. It is not just dining; it’s *the* moment in terroir’s annual performance, precious, ephemeral, unforgettable.
