A Lovely Languid Lunch at Panorama Restaurant
Entering through the welcoming open gates on the R43, just 8 minutes from Stanford, the first inkling of the quirky elegance at Bellavista Country Place is the ‘Slow Traffic Ahead’ signs with an image of a tortoise.
The slow drive up the hill takes you through acres of serene silence and those soft earthy aromas of Fynbos.
Nothing can prepare you for the breathtaking views from the top!
Getting out of your car and looking back, a vista opens up to reveal 180-degree views of rolling slopes of Fynbos veld, the majestic Atlantic Ocean skirted by beautiful mountains to form the renowned Hermanus Walker Bay.
As cool and calming as the views are, as warm and hearty the welcome you will receive from owners Georges & Marcelle and the staff.
Chef Dino is deceptively creative and equally eager to please. He is a true artist and quite flamboyant with flavours, consistencies, textures, colours and unique combinations of herbs and spices. He has a magical flair for intricate combinations as much as for elegant simplicity.
The sensual and beguiling feast of tempted senses started with the visual appeal of excellent plating. I was tickled as pink as the smoked salmon! The use of fresh organic herb garnishing from their garden complimented every dish in beauty and flavour.
Like the self-proclaimed hedonist I am, I wanted to taste everything! Look at the starters menu! We ordered a selection, choosing to share plates to optimise the opportunity to taste maximum options.
The accompanying crisp Sugarbush Sauvignon Blanc wine from Lomond pleased and soothed our palettes, clearing the way for the next taste sensations.
The company became more animated. So much good food and wine cannot be subdued.
The masterfully prepared main courses we chose were competing for more salivating and culinary delight.
It was a case of surrender and enjoy!
Obviously, no-one at the table could be hungry anymore, other than the desire to taste more of the marvels created in the kitchen. So we ordered dessert with epicurean delight.
The unique and magical alchemy of Bellavista and Panorama Restaurant is made up of very interesting components of Swiss precision, good taste, relaxed elegance, creative genius, warmhearted intelligence and a setting fit for Kings & Queens.
I will be back! Many times!
