Welcome to Just Raw, a little Cape Town far-south gem that began in 2018 with a butchery, a love for dogs or pets, and a rather sensible thought: surely our dogs deserve really good food too?

So Steve — with more than 30 years of butchery experience behind him — put his considerable butcherly wisdom to work, and Just Raw was born.

Today, meat, organ meat come together in the Just Raw kitchen, where everything is prepared with the same care you would expect from a good butcher. The vegetables are sourced daily and lovingly prepared by Annie and the team, while Steve and his production crew take care of the meaty business. Lin keeps the whole happy machine rolling — looking after customers, orders and deliveries with her usual practical magic.

And then there is the food. 

The Chicken & Vegetable Mix contains 70% chicken and organ meat and 30% seasonal vegetables, and is registered with the Department of Agriculture as a complete meal (REG. V33833). Just Raw uses human-grade ingredients and believes firmly in knowing what goes into the bowl — which is why they are perfectly happy for you to have a peek behind the scenes.

In fact, transparency is rather the point. You can visit the butchery, meet the people who make the food, see the ingredients and ask questions. No mysterious little pellets. No smoke and mirrors. Just good ingredients, skilled hands and a team who genuinely care about what they send home with you.

There is even a thoughtful little twist in the packaging. The reusable 900g and 1.8kg tubs can be returned, cleaned and exchanged for fresh ones with your next order. Less plastic wandering off into the world, more sensible re-use. We like that.

Just Raw is food made by people who love animals, know their craft and believe that what goes into a pet’s bowl matters.

You can order by phone or WhatsApp, or have your food delivered. Far South customers can enjoy free Monday and Tuesday deliveries, while deliveries further afield can be arranged with the team.
