That exciting feeling of visiting a very important, deeply elegant, very well-preserved, very famous, long-time-no-see, favourite aunt stole over me as I followed the road, waving at friendly farm workers eagerly pointing in the direction I should drive.
There is something wonderfully homely and embracing about Rooiheuwel’s unapologetic stately stature. It is calming and totally disarming.
Getting to Rooiheuwel
The gracious Rooiheuwel Manor House is visible from far away on the N2. The signs are visible from the Caledon side where you turn left, go under the bridge (N2) and follow the signs. From the Cape Town side, you pass the house and turn left at the signboards, then turn left again toward the house.
Once off the highway, follow the arrows on the Black & White wine vats.
