Benguela Cove Restaurant – The Moody Lagoon

Benguela Cove Restaurant – The Moody Lagoon

Do not ever drive past that alluring Benguela Cove Restaurant sign on the R43, close to Fisherhaven and Hermanus, ever again! If you have time and a little bit of money, drive right in! The venue is spectacularly built and placed to open your lungs, the art to entice you to drop your jaw and gawk in wonderment, the friendly and efficient service to please you and the wine and food to make you drool and enjoy. The beautiful space and quirky elegance charms one to absolutely relax and enjoy. All in all one of my favourite, most untaxing, most fabulously surprising, down to earth and pleasant restaurant experiences in a while!

I love it because it is not pretending to be anything it is not. It is beautiful and it is Good and it is periodically over the top and it is not self-conscious about it! It Flaunts it better than Dame Edna. I also love it because all the emplyees are proudly and elegantly flaunting away too. Only great management can inspire such loyalty and pride in their staff.

And you get all of that at incredibly competitive pricing. Not a greedy place! A very agreeable place! You will leave with a feelgood factor of 10 out of 10 and then some.

We decided to have an odd day and chose things we never usually order or drink. Instead of red wine we had white. It nearly caused me to change my religion in wine preference! Although MCC (Champagne) remains my absolute favourite beverage.

The elegant and racy 2015 Savignon Blanc went down like ice cold liquid fairy-dust.

In stead of raw foods and boring, inhibiting, calorie counting or grand spectacular & rare foods, we chose a hamburger and Fish & Chips. The argument being, if the chefs are humble and good enough to ace this, they can ace anything. Aces deluxe were delivered! Apart from their quirky Golf shirts, the service was almost cheeky – it is always a good sign when staff feel self assured – still absolutely respectful, uber friendly and super delightful. So was the resident duck terrorist team.

We finished off with the zany and delicious Strawberry cheesecake. Drool Warning: Please Fetch a hanky and enlarge the images. The platter came past us to another  happy table and I just had to ask permission to take a photo of this sumptuousness! It turned out to be a lovely way to meet fellow foodies!

I will most definitely be back many a time with many a friend!
