MANDELA DAY ~ 27,000 MEALS OF SOUP
Press release by Marc de Maudave Bestel Hermanus Brewery

The Hemel en Aarde Brewery in Hermanus has repurposed its equipment to produce soup. It has undertaken to provide 27,000 meals between 16–18 July 2020 (Mandela Day) as part of The Brewers Soup
Collective. 27,000 meals signify the 27 years that Madiba spent in prison. Nelson Mandela believed that if he could touch just one person’s life every day, he could change the world. He achieved exactly that through
his 67 years of activism. For Mandela Day 2020 Zelda Le Grange and the Brewery have partnered with The Brewers Soup Collective and Kolisi Foundation . But we need your help.

The community of Hermanus, South Africa, has rallied to feed more than 13,000 people who arrived at food kitchens every day for 3 months with empty eyes and starving stomachs. As time has passed, pockets have
emptied and relief is drying up. The effects of the COVID-19 lockdown are felt countrywide and the Hermanus community is on its knees.

Businesses have closed down, unemployment has skyrocketed, and the community can no longer carry the burden on its own.

The Brewers Soup Collective is a non-profit organisation that repurposes South African breweries to feed those most in need with nutritious soup.

For a small donation of R225, YOU can give a meal to 67 people in Hermanus during the 3 days over Mandela Day.
